Workshops for Beginners

3D-Printing for Beginners

Is your mind brimming with ideas, and are you eager to bring them to life? Then come to the FabLab Introduction Workshop and turn your ideas into reality using the machines and techniques available at Saxion FabLab. During the workshop, you’ll receive information about various possibilities, see inspiring examples, and have the opportunity to get hands-on experience!

The introduction workshop focuses on key techniques and machines. Part of it is dedicated to 3D techniques, while another part delves into 2D and graphic techniques. If you’re keen on learning more about 3D design and 3D printing, you’ll get the basics here and can start working on your projects during subsequent visits.

Duration: 2 – 3 hours
Cost: €25 per person, excluding materials. Minimum 4 / maximum 10 participants, registration is mandatory!

Laser cutting and engraving for Beginners (Wood and Acrylic)

Lasercutting is a 2D technique often involving the creation of designs from Adobe Illustrator. Having some experience with programs like Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, or Photoshop is advantageous. Together with you, we’ll explore how to optimize and adjust the design for laser use. You’ll learn the basics, such as distinguishing between cutting and engraving lines, settings for various materials (wood, acrylic, paper, fabric, etc.), and the proper use and configuration of the Trotec laser.

Duration: 1 to 2 hours

Cost: €25 per person, excluding materials. Minimum 4 / maximum 10 participants, registration is mandatory!

Digital Printing for Beginners (Stickers, T-Shirt Printing, Phone Case Printing

The world of printing and cutting is fascinating and offers numerous possibilities. But what is printing and cutting, and what can you do with a printer/cutter? The Roland Truevis print & cut machine combines both functions in one device. By using a print head with ink to print on material and then running a cutting blade (if desired) over the material while clamp rollers feed the material in and out, various labels, stickers, wraps, and graphics can be created. During the workshop, you’ll learn the basics of using this machine.

Duration: 1 to 2 hours
Cost: €25 per person, excluding materials. Minimum 4 / maximum 10 participants, registration is mandatory!

Workshops for Professionals

Parametric design

The focus will be on the applications of the software programs Rhinoceros 3D (Rhino) and Grasshopper. Grasshopper is a visual programming tool that operates within the Rhinoceros 3D design program. The workshops follow a top-down approach, encouraging participants to contemplate innovative and sustainable solutions, collaborate in design processes, create, make, and, where feasible, implement their ideas.

Duration: Upon request, the workshops will be conducted in three sessions, each lasting a half-day, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The sessions will include a meal.
Cost: The contribution for this course is €750,- excluding VAT and includes all necessary materials.

Software workshops

Autodesk Fusion 360 Online workshop

Want to learn 3D design and have your 3D print made with guidance from experienced Saxion FabLab professionals?

Autodesk Fusion 360 provides a cloud-based tool for design to production. With this, designers and engineers can create 3D product designs and collaborate with others in the cloud.

The online workshop is designed for beginners who want to get hands-on with 3D design. No prior experience with Fusion 360 is necessary. You will collaboratively design and, where possible, apply your design, for example, by having it printed on a 3D printer in the FabLab. Under the guidance of experts from Saxion FabLab, Fusion 360 specialists, you will work on your projects. Every other week, there is an opportunity to ask questions during the ‘drop-in hours.’

Duration: 5 lessons of 1.5 hours each, one lesson every 2 weeks from 09:00 – 10:30 AM, with the opportunity to ask questions during the ‘drop-in hours’ between lessons.
Cost: €150 per person for 5 lessons. Participants must use their own laptop during the lessons.
