I am Tom Scholten, 24 years old, and I come from Hengelo. I have been working at Saxion since September 4th.

In my free time, I like to visit terraces and go to the movies. Every weekend, you can find me on the couch with a beer watching football and Formula 1. I play the electric guitar, not in a band, but just for myself and occasionally with my father. He plays the bass guitar. I have been in a relationship with my girlfriend Jodi for 5 years. She lives in Apeldoorn, and I often spend my weekends there.

I studied Tourism Management at Saxion in Deventer for the past four years. During my studies, I spent seven months working at a Lodge, a small hotel, in South Africa in 2019. I lived in Hermanus, the whale capital of South Africa, which is about a 1.5-hour drive from Cape Town.

After graduating, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. This led me to join the Fast Forward Traineeship. Over 2 years, I will work at 3 different companies to figure out my strengths, what I want, and what I definitely don’t want in the future. My first company was De Kappen in Haaksbergen, a Cultural Center with a theater, library, and social function. I took on various tasks there, including marketing, which I enjoyed so much that I want to further develop in this area. At Saxion, I have the opportunity to focus entirely on marketing and I am really looking forward to the next 8 months. During this time, I will be working on the website and social media of the FabLab and the marketing of the IAMM project for the Industrial Design Research Group.
